Habitat: Grows in moist areas at lower elevations. Usually along streams, springs, ponds and lakes.

Edibility: Edible

Description:
Most parts of cattails are edible. The inside of young shoots were eaten raw or cooked. The roots are very starchy and can been dug and cooked like a potato or dried and ground into flower. They can also be used to stuff pillows.
