Habitat: Moist areas, lawns, along streams up to treeline. These specimens were found in the La Garita mountains. We have also seen them along the Rio Grande river and head waters.

Edibility: Edible

Color: Green, Purple flowers

Description:
wild Garlic is a native to Europe and Asia. It was introduced into North America where it can become invasive in lawns. These pictures were from up high in the mountains. Wild Garlic is much less common then your typical Wild Onion's which are all over our state. The flowers are darker and purple in color and look much different than Wild Onions. Wild Garlic is also similar to a top set onion where it has actual bulbs on with the flowers.

Caution: Be careful not to confuse with a close look-a-like the death camas. If it doesn't smell like an onion and have pink flowers its probably not an onion.

Related Species:
Wild Onion, Geyer's Onion
